CLIMATE & SUSTAINABILITY

THE OCEAN CLEANUP
https://www.theoceancleanup.com/

The Ocean Cleanup's mission is to develop and scale technologies to rid the oceans of plastic. They aim to clean up 90% of floating ocean plastic by 2040.

Cleaning the Ocean: They are currently cleaning up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, located between Hawaii and California and estimated to contain 100,000,000 kilograms of trash dispersed over an area twice the size of Texas, or three times the size of France.

Cleaning the Rivers: Rivers are the arteries that carry trash from land to the ocean. Through their research, they have identified 1000 rivers responsible for emitting around 80% of pollution into our oceans annually. Although 1000 rivers is a large number, it is only 1% of all rivers in the world – and they aim to tackle each one.

MEN’S HEALTH AND MENTAL HEALTH

MOVEMBER
https://uk.movember.com/

Men’s health is in crisis. Men are dying on average 4.5 years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons.

A growing number of men – around 10.8M globally – are facing life with a prostate cancer diagnosis. Globally, testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men. And across the world, one man dies by suicide every minute of every day, with males accounting for 69% of all suicides.

Movember is uniquely placed to address this crisis on a global scale. We fund groundbreaking projects all over the world, engaging men where they are to understand what works best and accelerate change.

HEADS UP GUYS
https://headsupguys.org/

What started as a simple survey in the waiting room of a doctor’s office, became the catalyst for creating HeadsUpGuys. Men clearly indicated they were having suicidal thoughts on the survey, yet failed to mention these thoughts to the doctor they were about to see.

This led to the creation of an online, anonymous resource specifically designed for men, and their families, to prevent the continued erosion of men’s mental health and deaths by suicide. The website offers tips and articles that arm men with the tools they need to fight depression, as well as recovery stories from men who have faced depression, and an international therapist directory to connect men with local mental health professionals.
